Anthology of nine short anime (Japanese animation) films tied in to the 1999 blockbuster "The Matrix" and its sequels. "Final Flight of the Osiris": The crew of the hovercraft Osiris attempt to warn their city of an imminent attack. "The Second Renaissance, Parts 1 & 2": The story behind the war between man and the machines, how mankind scorched the sky, and the creation of the Matrix. "Kid's Story": A teenager is contacted by Neo, and manages to escape the Matrix. "Program": Two warriors battle in a samurai training simulation when one decides to betray his crewmates and re-enter the Matrix. "World Record": A champion sprinter manages to break free of the Matrix by sheer physical effort during a record attempt. "Beyond": A young girl searching for her cat discovers a haunted house caused by a glitch in the system. "A Detective Story": Private investigator Ash tracks a hacker named Trinity through the looking glass. "Matriculated": A group of humans capture a machine scout and insert it into a 'human matrix'. The Animatrix is a collection of several animated short films, detailing the backstory of the "Matrix" universe, and the original war between man and machines which led to the creation of the Matrix. After watching the animatrix (particularly - The Second Renaissance, Parts 1 & 2) I was left stunned. These two animations were in one word gruesome.

The other animations however were much more lighter as compared to the first three animations. Personally it was "A Detective Story" that possessed some class with the story portrayed as an old fashioned black and white detective mystery. "Beyond" was also a very interesting story of a young girl looking for her cat and running into a glitch in the matrix.

The remaining animations were not particularly as impressive in the way they were portrayed and much can be said about the originality of these stories.

To those who have not seen The Matrix, this movie might seem a bit confusing and hard to understand so make sure you watch it first before watching the Animatrix. Well, the thing about the movie is that it has great animation, stories, representation, suspense, concept and thrill . But well, all though it will make you think, rethink, contemplate and stick to till the end enjoying the film to the last bit .. But the thing is you won't make anything out of it. Cause the doesn't show a story but a couple of them. It's basically a side addition to the Matrix series and if you wanna understand this anime . You gotta watch the Matrix series first .

So don't watch this before you watch that .

But don't dare to miss this after watching the Matrix series…. It goes everywhere the film didn't…. It's totally worth the time….
